Hamilton County’s central location makes us the hub of Adirondack snowmobiling. Snowfall averaging 100-200 inches per winter and higher elevation gives us a snowmobiling season that lasts from December through much of March. Our trails range from tight woods pathways to seasonal road networks like Perkins Clearing and Moose River Plains.
People come here to ride from the Capital Region, central New York, downstate New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey via I-87 and I-90 and NYS Routes 8, 10, 28 & 30. We have plenty of places to park and ride from.
Maintenance on Hamilton County’s 650 miles of snowmobile trails is performed by a combination of volunteer snowmobile clubs and local municipalities. Most snowmobiling in Inlet requires the purchase of the Town of Webb/Inlet snowmobiling permit.
Adirondack snowmobiling offers some of the best winter scenery in New York State. I’m proud to say that Hamilton County has the “best of the best” with picturesque views that you won’t find anywhere else (below, Moose River Plains Recreation Area)

When doing anything out on the trails, we urge you take a map, a compass, and know how to use them. We offer an online interactive map that allows you to zoom in print your own map.
For smartphones, our “Snowmobiling NY State” app is GPS-enabled. Once downloaded to your smartphone, the app provides a happy marriage of old technology (maps and compasses) and new. It does not require cell phone service. Unlike a paper map, the app will show you exactly where you are: on or off the trail. Both maps and apps have their limitations. Use together, with common sense, and enjoy snowmobiling unfamiliar routes with confidence.
